Object in Focus Projects

Popeye Doll from 1950s

The Novium Museum regularly welcomes students from Schools, Colleges and Universities who wish to undertake short term work experience placements here at the museum. Whilst on placement the students are given the opportunity to take part in a range of tasks including working with our front of house team to welcome visitors, restock and create eye catching displays in the museum shop, create trails and interactive activities for the galleries, research the museum collections, create content for the website and shadow staff and volunteers undertaking their regular duties.

For those students who want to learn more about what is involved in curating an exhibition we have created a project to give them the opportunity to bring together, from start to finish, their very own small scale exhibition. This project titled 'Object in Focus' sees the students pick an object from a pre-determined list of artefacts selected by the museum's Collections Team. The students then research their chosen item before creating object labels designed to provide a visitor with extra information about the item. Their final task, with the help of museum staff, is to pull all of their work together to creating their very own display.
